Cowboy Church Round-Up Weekly Newsletter

Howdy Pardners,

I have a few thoughts concerning all the fires, hurricanes and earthquakes we have seen in the world over the last few weeks. If you read to the end of this Round-Up you will see my thoughts on this. I wonder how many of you are feeling much the same way?  I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts!

1.      We have raised over $500 so far in the Cowboy Church for the Hurricane Disaster Relief efforts.  If you haven’t given yet, join us in helping the SBC Disaster Relief folks help those people in the name of Jesus. To help, put your checks (Marked “Disaster Relief”) in the offering boots Sunday or Monday.

2.      The next town parade we are participating in will be in Hallsville, Saturday September 30th at 9AM (Note new time for parade at 9 am and not 10.) with an 8:30 AM line-up. Wear your new Cowboy Church Shirts to the parade, especially if you are in it! Thanks to the 14 church members that participated in the Harrisburg Septemberfest Parade this past Saturday.  The stagecoach, horses, and riders were a big hit in that parade.  Take a look at the Church Facebook Page if you want to see some photos of us in the parade.

3.      Thanks to you, our regular attendees and members, for your faithful attendance and regular giving and tithing to your Cowboy Church.

4.      Linda Sharp continues to recruit church folks to be on a Hospitality Committee to help with the drinks and other Fellowship-Time needs for both Sundays and Mondays. A sign-up sheet is at the church.  Talk to Linda about the details. Thanks to John and Guyrene Burks and Dorothy McMahan for doing it on Mondays this month.

5.       The Ladies’ Bible Study Group had their first meeting this week.  The meeting was Wednesday, September 13th at 6 PM at the cowboy church building, with 10 ladies attending and having a great time of study and fellowship.  The next meeting will be Wednesday, September 27th at 6 pm.  All ladies are welcome to join in with this Beth Moore study of 2 Timothy!  Ask MaryAnn Larison about getting one of the workbooks.

6.      The “18th Annual Saddle-Up for St. Jude’s (Children’s Hospital) Trail Ride” will be this Saturday (Tomorrow), September 16th at David and Brenda Reed’s Farm and onto the Rudolph Bennitt Conservation Area near Higbee, MO.  Bring donations from sponsors for your ride!  Coggins papers are required for all horses to ride in this trail ride. Ride-out time for all riders is 10 AM with a lunch provided on the trail (donations for lunch welcomed). A Carry-In Dinner at 5 PM and Auction will follow the trail ride. The meat for the dinner is provided.  (You Do Not have to have a horse to attend the dinner and auction and you are warmly welcomed to attend these fun parts of the day at the Reeds’ farm!)

7.      We are planning our, “First Annual Fun Show at the Cowboy Church” on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in our Cowboy Church Arena.  MaryAnn Larison and Jacque Barker are the Point Riders (Organizers) for this event.  Plan now to participate or come watch these fun horse and rider contests.  There will be contests for every age and experience level.  Awards will be given! Show bills are on the church website, Facebook page or paper copies are available at the church services.  If you are on Facebook, share the Show Bill to your page, if you would, to help us spread the word.) The events will start at 10AM. We will need plenty of help from our church members.  You may sign-up for one of these jobs on a sign-up sheet at the church!

8.      The Spencer’s Wild West Show and Chuck Wagon Dinner at their Victorian Country Inn on Hwy 124 to Hallsville is less than a month away.  It will be Saturday, October 7th from 5:30 to 7 PM.  Please sign up at the cowboy church services to let the Spencers know you plan to attend. This is fun evening for the whole family around the campfire eating great cowboy grub and Dutch oven cooking and getting a real taste of the Old West!  All the profits from this event will be donated to our Cowboy Church Building Fund.  Last year over $4,000 was raised for the church by this neat event!

9.      Thanks to Steve Barker for constructing a 12ft by 7ft sign board for our building’s south gable. I got it painted on Tuesday and we hope to hang it on the building this Sunday afternoon if all goes as planned.

10.  We have been a “Dog Friendly Church” up until now, but it may perhaps be time for an, “Up-dated Dog Policy for the Cowboy Church”? Hey, I love dogs as much as anyone in the church, but a few guidelines might keep us from having trouble in the future.

Here are my suggestions:

1. First, if you don’t need to bring your dog to church, then please give him/her a bone (or a hotdog, as we do) and let him stay home, while you head off to cowboy church!

2. If you do bring your dog to church, please bring a clean blanket to cover the seat and the back of the pew for your dog to lie on, or have your dog lie on the floor. Dog hair on these church pews is very difficult to sweep off of that material!

3. Please don’t leave your dog blanket or rug at church, but take it home to clean.

4. Please keep your dog on a leash at all times at church.

5. Please do not bring dogs to church that are not friendly to people, especially children.

7. Please do not bring dogs that are not friendly to horses.

8. Please do not bring barking dogs, or restless dogs or any dogs that might make a mess.

All the dogs that have come to cowboy church so far have been good, but we just need these few guidelines to keep us out of trouble in the future with our pups. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!

Now, here are some thoughts on these recent events in our world. With all the “natural disasters” that have been coming upon America in quick succession, Bible-believing Christians, including some of us, are beginning to understand how much the Lord is not happy with America or the rest of the world.  It should not be surprising if God were removing His protective hand of blessing from us.  After all, America has removed God from the public square and from the public schools. We have removed His Word, the Bible, from the schools and His righteous standards from our American way of life. We could sit here and condemn the liberal politicians and the Hollywood moguls for all of this, but when is the last time we ourselves came to God with repentant hearts and wept and prayed for our nation, for the world, and for ourselves?

I’d like to propose that we humbly start this repentance and prayer before God in our own backyard, in the Gateway to the High Country Cowboy Church Family. Who knows, perhaps God will hear our prayers and it will spread out from here to our neighbors, friends and families. So I am asking all our church family to begin the repentance process in your own homes this week. Pray with each other in your families for our nation and for the world. Then this Sunday and Monday we can figure out what we could and should do together.  God says, “If my people, who are called by my name, humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

We hope to see you this Sunday and/or Monday at the Gateway to the High Country Cowboy Church! God Bless and Happy Trails,

Pastor Dale and MaryAnn Larison c}:-{
